Where Is the Staircase?
Outdoor stairlifts use equipment designed for external conditions. Do not assume an indoor stairlift can simply be installed outside.
Will a Stairlift Fit My Staircase?
Stairlifts can be fitted to many different staircase configurations, including straight flights, curved stairs and stairs with intermediate landings.

How Wide Do Stairs Need to Be for a Stairlift?
There is no single universal width for every stairlift.
Acorn currently states that its 130 straight stairlift needs approximately 67 cm of staircase width and its 180 curved stairlift approximately 69 cm to provide the required swivel clearance.
These are manufacturer-specific reference figures rather than universal pass/fail measurements. A survey is still required.
Can You Put a Stairlift on Curved Stairs?
Yes. Staircases with bends, turns and intermediate landings normally require a curved stairlift with a rail configured to follow the staircase. Read more about curved stairlifts.
Can You Put a Stairlift on Straight Stairs?

What If There Is a Door at the Bottom of the Stairs?
A doorway does not automatically prevent installation. Some stairlifts can use a hinged rail to reduce obstruction at the foot of the staircase when appropriate. See how stairlift installation works.
