Can Birmingham City Council Fund a Stairlift?
Birmingham City Council lists stairlifts among the adaptations that may be funded. Stairlifts may qualify where the council considers the adaptation necessary and appropriate.

The council can help complete forms, plan the adaptation and arrange payment. Homeowners may use their own contractor and apply directly, but still need an OT assessment first.

How the Assessment Works
Birmingham completes an assessment to establish eligibility. Request an Occupational Therapist assessment by phoning the council.

How Much Could You Get?
The statutory maximum for a DFG in England is £30,000. This is a maximum, not a guaranteed award — the amount depends on the applicant's circumstances.
Birmingham states the Disabled Facilities Grant is means tested but will not affect any benefits you receive.
Birmingham's Staying Independent at Home Policy sets out discretionary grants, loans and services beyond the mandatory DFG. Check the policy for current conditions.
What Happens After the Assessment?
GOV.UK states that a council must give a decision within six months after receiving a valid application.
Worth knowing: Age UK found that over two-thirds of councils took longer than the recommended six months from first contact to a completed adaptation — with the longest cases taking more than 24 months.
