A September 2024 council report said demand had grown sharply, there were waiting lists for major adaptations and work was unlikely to start within 12 months. Manchester states that a DFG will not affect any benefits you receive.

Manchester says it will visit you at home to discuss which major adaptations are appropriate for you.
How Much Could You Get?
The statutory maximum for a DFG in England is £30,000. This is a maximum, not a guaranteed award — the amount depends on the applicant's circumstances.
The September 2024 report proposed changes to discretionary top-ups because the DFG budget was already committed. Check with the council for current policy.

What Happens After the Assessment?
GOV.UK states that a council must give a decision within six months after receiving a valid application.
Worth knowing: Age UK found that over two-thirds of councils took longer than the recommended six months from first contact to a completed adaptation — with the longest cases taking more than 24 months.
