Acorn 130 Outdoor Stairlift

The Acorn 130 Outdoor is the outdoor version of Acorn's straight stairlift, fitted to external steps where getting to the front door, the garden or the driveway has become the hard part of the day.

Quick answer: it is a weatherproofed straight stairlift for outside steps, supplied with a protective cover, battery-powered so it works in a power cut. It costs more than the indoor equivalent, and the survey has to look at ground fixings, drainage and a safe outdoor power supply.

How we make money: UK Mobility Stairlifts is an affiliate of Acorn Stairlifts. Enquiries made here go to Acorn, who survey, quote and install. If you buy, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you. See our Affiliate Disclosure.

Typical uses

  • Steps from the pavement or driveway up to a front door.
  • Back-door steps down to a garden or patio.
  • Terraced or sloping gardens with a straight run of steps.
  • Access to a garage or an outbuilding.

If the outdoor steps turn a corner, the survey will look at a curved solution rather than this model — see the Acorn 180.

Built for outside

  • Weather-resistant construction for UK rain, damp and cold.
  • Protective cover for the seat and carriage between journeys.
  • Folding seat, arms and footrest so the steps stay usable.
  • Battery drive with charging points, so a power cut is not a problem.
  • Safety sensors and seatbelt as standard, the same as indoors.

What the surveyor checks

  1. The run and rise of the steps, and whether they are genuinely straight.
  2. What the rail can be fixed to — concrete, stone or a suitable base.
  3. Drainage and standing water at the bottom of the run.
  4. Where a safe, correctly installed outdoor power supply can be provided.
  5. Whether the parked lift blocks a path, gate or escape route.

What affects the price

  • Rail length and the number of steps.
  • Any groundworks or base needed for fixings.
  • Bringing power out to the lift.
  • Access for the installation team.
  • Whether you qualify for VAT relief.

Looking after an outdoor lift

Outdoor lifts work harder than indoor ones. Use the cover, keep the rail clear of leaves and ice, and keep the lift on a regular service plan — see our stairlift servicing guide.
